Targeting the ED to Reduce Suicide and Substance Abuse

This webinar discusses a statewide initiative in Arizona to enlist the staff of the State’s 80 Emergency Departments in identifying, screening and referring for treatment or follow up patients that are at-risk for suicide or substance abuse. The 45 minute session features Lisa Shumaker, Office Chief, Prevention Services, Arizona Department of Health Services, Division of Behavioral Health Services, and her colleague, Markay Adams, Suicide Prevention Coordinator discussing:

NY Launches Statewide Use of Kognito At-Risk for High School Educators

Thirty thousand teachers in New York State will be trained over the next three years using Kognito’s At-Risk. Hosted by Melanie Puorto, director of suicide prevention initiatives for NYS Office of Mental Health, this webinar discusses why her office selected this innovative training platform and what they hope to achieve on behalf of New York’s youth and families. Ms. Puorto also explains how schools can join the program and plans for its evaluation. Ms. Puorto is joined in the Webinar by Melissa Evingham, Asst. Supt. of the Lakeshore Central School District in Upstate New York, who talks about how the training aligns with her districts "whole child" philosophy. Kognito CEO Ron Goldman demonstrates the simulation and discusses the results of a quasi-experimental research study conducted among over 300 teachers in 40 states.
