The Learning Experience

In this four-hour simulation, learners assume the role of Maria Cruz, a Director of HR, and investigate a sexual harassment claim from start to finish. Throughout the simulation, learners engage in experiential-based learning activities, such as interviewing relevant parties, determining possible policy violations, selecting witnesses, evaluating evidence, and making a case conclusion. Learners receive feedback on all their decisions and gain access to valuable document templates they can use in their real-life cases. Episode 1: Claim Intake (55 min)

An employee approaches you with a complaint against her supervisor and, during your conversation, you must gather the facts and determine if a formal investigation is necessary. When the conversation is over, you must evaluate the claim to determine what policies may have been violated and generate an issue confirmation memo.

Episode 2: Respondent Interview (45 min)

Interview the respondent to explain the claims and get his side of the story. Decide whether or not to place him on administrative leave, and construct a "Notice of Administrative Leave" memo.

Episode 3: Witness Interviews (60 min)

Select your top three witnesses. Then interview them to get their input on key claims. Afterwards, reflect on potential biases each witness may have.

Episode 4: Investigation Conclusion (40 min)

Evaluate case evidence, then weigh this evidence to determine which policies, if any, have been violated by the respondent. Finally, construct a confidential investigation report.

Episode 5: Case Closure (20 min)

Bring the case to an end by meeting with both the respondent and the claimant to explain the results of the investigation. Learn how to prepare results notification memos for each.
